Summer Inflation Series - Session 3: The Fundamentals of Real Assets and a Current Market Update
Please join Keith Black, PhD, CAIA, CFA, FDP, Managing Director, Content Strategy at CAIA and Jeffrey Hall, CAIA, Head of International Product at Nuveen, as they discuss real assets and the current market update. This session will be moderated by Millissa Allen, CAIA, Managing Director, Global Head, Fundamentals of Alternative Investments at CAIA.

Many investors are seeking to add assets to their portfolio that can be effective in hedging increasing rates of inflation. Assets that have been considered to hedge inflation risk include equities, real estate, commodity futures, farmland, timberland, inflation-linked bonds, infrastructure, and master limited partnerships. Each of these assets varies in its ability to hedge inflation risks, as well as in the liquidity provisions.

Keith Black, PhD, CAIA, CFA, FDP
Managing Director, Content Strategy @CAIA
Keith Black has over thirty years of financial market experience, serving approximately half of that time as an academic and half as a trader and consultant to institutional investors. He currently serves as Managing Director of Content Strategy for the CAIA Association. During his most recent role at Ennis Knupp + Associates, Keith advised foundations, endowments and pension funds on their asset allocation and manager selection strategies in hedge funds, commodities, and managed futures. Prior experience includes commodities derivatives trading, stock options research and CBOE floor trading, and building quantitative stock selection models for mutual funds and hedge funds. Dr. Black previously served as an assistant professor and senior lecturer at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Jeffrey Hall, CAIA
Head of International Product @Nuveen
Jeff is Head of International Product at Nuveen. He leads a globally based team responsible for the design and development of investment product across a broad spectrum of traditional and alternative asset classes for Nuveen’s multi-channel client base. Jeff joined the firm in 2006 and held various senior roles overseeing a spectrum of product structures including closed end funds (private and public), collective investment trusts, UCITs and registered 1940 act vehicles. Jeffrey graduated with a B.S. in Economics and Psychology from St. Lawrence University and a M.S. in Finance from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He holds the CAIA designation and is a founding board member of the Defined Contribution Alternatives Association.
Millissa Allen, CAIA
Managing Director, Global Head, Fundamentals of Alternative Investment @CAIA
Millissa joined CAIA Association in September 2013. Ms. Allen, who earned her CAIA Charter in 2012, oversees strategic initiatives to promote the CAIA program and deepen industry relationships throughout the USA and Canada. Prior to joining CAIA, Ms. Allen served as Director of Sales Operations at Hatteras Funds for eight years, where she managed client relationships, orchestrated multi-level marketing campaigns, led sales and marketing training, and managed more than 100 sales-related events per year. Ms. Allen brings tremendous energy, expertise, and innovation to CAIA’s efforts to introduce the CAIA Charter to new audiences and to expand CAIA’s visibility within companies already dedicated to promoting the CAIA Charter internally. Ms. Allen received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
