Join the CAIA Content Team each month as we take a closer review of one of the fundamentals of alternative investment education. This webcast is part of series that takes a deeper dive into core concepts taken directly from the CAIA Charter and Fundamentals of Alternative Investments (FAI) Program curriculums. Each month we’ll feature a guest presenter who is both a CAIA Member and a subject matter expert who will share a practitioner’s perspective on the topic and discuss current practical issues in their field of work.

Keith Black, PhD., CAIA, CFA, FDP, Managing Director of Content Development at CAIA, will review the definition and characteristics of asset allocation models, including model portfolios, the capital asset pricing model, the endowment model, mean-variance optimization, risk budgeting, multi-factor models, liability-driven investments, risk parity, scenario-based models, and core vs. non-core portfolio models. Joining Keith Black, is special guest, Kweku Obed, CAIA, CFA, Managing Director at Marquette Associates. Millissa Allen, CAIA, will be the moderator.

Keith Black, PhD., CAIA, CFA, FDP

Keith Black has over thirty years of financial market experience, serving approximately half of that time as an academic and half as a trader and consultant to institutional investors. He currently serves as Managing Director of Content Strategy for the CAIA Association. During his most recent role at Ennis Knupp + Associates, Keith advised foundations, endowments and pension funds on their asset allocation and manager selection strategies in hedge funds, commodities, and managed futures. Prior experience includes commodities derivatives trading, stock options research and CBOE floor trading, and building quantitative stock selection models for mutual funds and hedge funds. Dr. Black previously served as an assistant professor and senior lecturer at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Kweku Obed, CFA, CAIA
Managing Director @Marquette Associates
Kweku Obed is a managing director for Marquette Associates and serves on the firm’s board of directors. An owner of the firm, Kweku has been with the company since 2014 and has 22 years of investment experience. He serves as the primary consultant on several client relationships. Kweku chairs the firm’s defined contribution services committee and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. Kweku joined the firm from Mercer Investment Consulting, where he served as a principal and senior investment consultant in their Chicago office. His responsibilities included working with defined benefit and defined contribution clients on asset allocation, performance measurement and analysis, investment manager search, and investment policy development. Prior to Mercer, Kweku worked at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (now part of BlackRock) as an assistant vice president in their tax-exempt fixed income research group.
Millissa Allen, CAIA
Managing Director, Global Head, Fundamentals of Alternative Investments @CAIA
Millissa joined CAIA Association in September 2013. Ms. Allen, who earned her CAIA Charter in 2012, oversees strategic initiatives to promote the CAIA program and deepen industry relationships throughout the USA and Canada. Prior to joining CAIA, Ms. Allen served as Director of Sales Operations at Hatteras Funds for eight years, where she managed client relationships, orchestrated multi-level marketing campaigns, led sales and marketing training, and managed more than 100 sales-related events per year. Ms. Allen brings tremendous energy, expertise, and innovation to CAIA’s efforts to introduce the CAIA Charter to new audiences and to expand CAIA’s visibility within companies already dedicated to promoting the CAIA Charter internally. Ms. Allen received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
