CAIA & AIMA Intern and Young Professional Boot Camp: Hedge Funds I: Structure, Categories and Biases followed by ESG History, Approaches and Integration
In this three part series, the CAIA Association and AIMA are joining forces to provide educational content and career insight for students, interns, and young professionals who want to learn more about careers in the alternative investment space.

In this second of three web seminars, please join Aaron Filbeck, CAIA, CFA, FDP, CIPM, Director, Global Content Development at CAIA as he discusses the characteristics of hedge funds, including recent statistics on the growth of the industry and an overview of funds by age, domicile, and concentrations across the hedge fund universe. We look at hedge fund industry performance and the dynamics of particular investment strategies. Finally, we cover issues with hedge fund industry databases, noting the role of indices, the presence of biases, and the implications of imperfections in performance measurement process.

Aaron will then present an overview of environmental, social, and governance investing (ESG). First, we discuss the history of ESG investing, including its evolution from values-based investment philosophy to a data-centric investment process. Next, we compare the three primary approaches to ESG investing: socially responsible investing (SRI), impact investing and ESG integration. Finally, with a focus on ESG integration, we discuss the three pillars of ESG: environmental, social, and governance, and how an investor may consider each when making investment decisions.
