Perspectives on the Korean Asset Management Industry
Based on a survey of industry leaders, this webinar discusses recent trends in Korea’s financial markets and the asset management firms’ reactions to those trends. In particular, this webinar discusses how asset management firms can adapt to changes in the behavior of retail investors since 2020.

Retail investors increasingly rely on new media to form their investment views, but asset management firms could provide added value to individuals by offering personalized products and services. Dr. Jang Ho Kim discusses the recent movement by retail investors in Korea, its possible causes, its effect on the Korean asset management industry, and how asset management firms can adapt to these changes.

The Financial Data Professional Institute (FDPI), established by CAIA Association, has designed a self-study program to provide financial professionals with an efficient path to learn the essential aspects of financial data science.  

Webinar will be conducted in English. Formal remarks of the presentation will last approximately 45 minutes, with 15 minutes for Q&A.

Jang Ho Kim
Associate Professor @Kyung Hee University
Jang Ho Kim is an associate professor in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering and Big Data Analytics at Kyung Hee University. He is also an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of AI and the Department of Software Convergence at Kyung Hee University. He serves on the editorial advisory board of The Journal of Portfolio Management. His research is focused on portfolio optimization, automated investments, and financial data analysis. Jang Ho received his Ph.D. from KAIST in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a focus on Financial Engineering. He has a Master of Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, both from Cornell University. Prior to his doctoral program, he was an associate in the electronic trading team of Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York City.
Minjun Kim

Mr. Kim is a Managing Partner of SAP Investment Management, which is a multi-family investment office he co-founded in 2018 in Korea. Prior to SAP, he was a Senior Director of Hedge Funds at the sovereign wealth of Korea, Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) from 2008 to 2018. Previously, Mr. Kim was a Senior Specialist at Merrill Lynch Japan Securities from 2006 to 2008, and worked at Bloomberg LP in Japan and Korea from 2002 to 2006. Mr. Kim started his career as an investment banker at Tong Yang Securities from 2000 to 2002. Mr. Kim was also actively involved in non-profit activities and worked at Busan International Film Festival Committee as a Staff in Asian Project Market for the new films. Mr. Kim holds BSBA in International Business and Government from Georgetown University, and an MBA in Finance from Yonsei University. He is a CAIA charter holder and serves as Head of CAIA Korea Chapter.
Hossein Kazemi, PhD, CFA

Dr. Hossein Kazemi, Ph.D., CFA, is the Sr. Advisor to the FDP Program. Dr. Kazemi assists with the development of the CAIA and FDP program curriculum, he serves as the editor of Alternative Investment Analyst Review, which is published by the CAIA Association. Dr. Kazemi has been involved in the CAIA Association since inception as a senior adviser and board member. Dr. Kazemi is a Professor of Finance at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Dr. Kazemi is currently the Director of the Center for International Securities & Derivatives Markets, a nonprofit organization devoted to research in the area of alternative investments, a co-founder of the CAIA Association, and home to CISDM Hedge Fund/CTA Database and the Journal of Alternative Investments, the official research publication of the CAIA Association. He has a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Michigan.
